Hyderabad, May 19, 2017: IBS Hyderabad won three awards in the oikos Case Writing Competition 2016, held by oikos, an international student-driven organization for sustainability in economics and management. Cases from IBS won one prize in each of the three tracks - Sustainable Finance, Social Entrepreneurship and Corporate Sustainability.
‘The Fall of SunEdison – A Solar Eclipse?’ written by Alok Kavthankar and Indu Perepu won the second prize in the Sustainable Finance Track. The case is about bankruptcy of one of the largest renewable energy companies in the world, US-based SunEdison Inc. The case describes the fall of SunEdison due to high debt.
‘Bridge International Academies’ by Manish Agarwal and D. Satish won the third prize in the Social Entrepreneurship track. The case is about the world’s largest and fastest growing private school chain, known for its radically innovative ‘Academy-in-a-Box’ model, which offered low-cost, quality education to the Bottom of the Pyramid students.
‘Enrich Not Exploit’: Can New CSR Strategy Help Body Shop Regain Glory?’ written by Syeda Maseeha Qumer and Debapratim Purkayastha was the runner up in the Corporate Sustainability Track. The case discusses challenges faced by the CEO Body Shop as he tries to re-establish the company as an ethical retailer.
